What is wrong here?

An older lady in the congregation phoned the youth directors to speak with them about a gift for youth ministry. Her husband had passed away and memorial gifts had been given to the church in his name. It was up to the widow to determine how they would be spent. Given her husband’s commitment to the youth of the church, she felt it would be right to find a suitable use within the youth ministry for the $1200 given. The calls were not returned for a long time. Finally she received an email (the impersonal response surprised her) from one of the youth directors. They suggested a time to meet to discuss the gift. However, the woman by that point was on vacation and replied that she would be happy to meet in a few weeks. No reply. She returned from vacation and left another message for the youth directors but still got nowhere. Now she is considering giving the money to the church organ fund. What is wrong with this picture? Two full time youth directors and neither have the time to meet with a widow to discuss a gift that would benefit the youth ministry? The widow is my mother. What does the story teach us?
