What do we teach about the Bible?

Before we send students off to college or into the working world, hopefully we will have taught them not just things in the Bible but some key ideas about the Bible.  It’s not the sexiest stuff to teach but incredibly valuable as they seek to give a reason for the hope they have within them.  I said it that way rather than suggest that students need to be able to defend the scriptures.  I think it was Spurgeon who said something to the effect of “I’d no more defend the Bible than I would a lion”.

Bill Mounce, the NT editor of the ESV Bible, blogged recently on four things we need to believe about the Bible.  I think this is an excellent starting point for what we need to teach students.

They are:

Inspiration
Authority
Canonicity
Trustworthy
