Schools

The other day I ran across two different articles on the subject of the involvement of Christians in schools. One was in Youthwork Magazine on how the UK school system is changing and the need for people to help make schools a more caring atmosphere will increase. It was rather pessimistic about what I view as positive changes. Then I stumbled across an op ed piece in The Telegraph which was basically a conservative (politically speaking) moaning about how progressives have protested the creation of a new school in his area of London where public schools are failing. He seemed to feel that the complaints were really about how bad this new school would make the others look. Then I watched a bit of a program on television that featured teachers talking about the struggles of schools here in the states. The common thread through them in my mind was the opportunity and need for people to get involved in education in order to make it a better place. I live with a spouse who is doing that on a daily basis by teaching in what I view as a very challenging school. The chaos she encounters on a daily basis blows my mind at times. Then I came across this article on the potential impact on the community that getting involved in schools can effect. Take a look at Transforming Neighborhoods by Transforming Public Schools
