With Halloween a mere five weeks away, I am reminded of a trend in some churches to create a Hell House sort of haunted house experience for the sake of evangelism. Honestly, I personally find this sort of approach frightening. It seems on the one extreme we see Christians watering down the gospel and trying to make Christianity attractive for the sake of “winning people to Christ” which I think Paul spoke clearly against (see 1 Corinthians 1:18-2:5). On the other hand, we see this extreme approach which only serves in my mind to make a mockery out of the most frightening reality in scripture. Do we see Jesus trying to scare people into Heaven? He was very clear about Heaven and Hell, but those who rejected him, he let walk away rather than trying to impress upon them their future fate. To see what one of these looks like, go here.
