Rooted Discipleship

At the Rooted Conference we heard an excellent message from Sand Price which can be listened to on the rooted blog

“Speaking from her vast experience ministering to High School girls, Sand Price discusses how expository Bible teaching must be the root of small group discipleship.”

I really appreciate what Sand had to share during the first 25 minutes:
    1) Her YL leader followed up the moment of salvation with "you will want to be giving your life away for the rest of your life." A great challenge from a great YL leader.
    2) She challenged youth pastors to an Eph 4:12 ministry in which the purpose of those of us in professional ministry is to develop volunteers. i.e. "equipping the saints".
    3) Have our eyes open at every moment to watch for those exhibiting the call of Christ to reach the next generation. Then ask them to join us.
    4) Have a developmentally appropriate curriculum with a scope and sequence. – Take them deeper!
    5) Transforming youth ministry is based on long term relationships based on journeying with Christ as God's Word challenges all (including the teacher) to surrendering our lives in greater ways daily.
    6) Students come because of relationships: God, other Christians and with her. All three are important.
    7) Much youth ministry is simply committed Christians coming along side our children and saying what parents say (or should say) but who are not the parents when they say it.
    8) Create a space of grace: model that faith is risky and messy and, although we still struggle with what it means to trust God, it is worth it.
    9) Our homes are to be open…places of hospitality and welcome.
    10) Give students (and young leaders) the training to use the toolbox God has given the church: the living and eternal Word of God.

The only bummer is that the last 22 minutes didn't have sound on my player. 🙁
