Have you ever noticed the most misused word in prayer among evangelical beleivers? I was sitting with a group of folks praying this week and was reminded of it. Seems odd and even ridiculous to notice it but the word gets uttered a gazillion times as people pray and almost never used properly. It is nothing more than filler, a sort of pause word, the way it is used and yet the word does have a meaning. If we used the word to mean what it means in every other context, our prayers would be significantly shorter. Any ideas what the word is? Clue: it is not in the body of this post.
Just wondering…

oh please tell me it’s the word “just” as in “God just be with us tonight” or “God just move in power” i’ll hold off on my “Just” rant incase i’m wrong.

I’m guessing … Lord or Jesus. I use those words too often myself, so just kinda putting it out there!

Actually, using the words Lord or Jesus is totally appropriate because that is who we are speaking to. The word I am referring to, if used correctly, would terminate the prayer.

must be ‘amen’ and i’ll just say amen to that! Actually, Lord, I was thinking ‘Lord’ as well just b4 dave’s post yesterday. Just don’t think of me, Lord, as just a worthless pray-er, Lord – amen?

Mark used the word four times and it is not “Amen” which I beleive means ‘I agree’.

Now I’m guessing “I” or “me.” But not sure how this would “terminate the prayer”
You’ve got me Dave!

Okay, Mr Libbon got it right away. When people pray and use the word “just” with each request or petition, they ought to end the prayer right there. Instead they go on with other petitions using the word “just” before each one. See if you notice it in the future…
