Al Simpson, State Board of Education Chairman, presented E’Lane Rutherford with an award for her exceptional volunteer service to the Georgetown County School District. Rutherford was one of 30 outstanding volunteers who received the prestigious honor at a ceremony Wednesday, Oct. 29, in Columbia. The Volunteer Awards honor significant contributions made by four categories of recipients: individuals, businesses, civic organizations and school improvement councils. Candidates are nominated by school districts across the state. Criteria for selection include promoting student achievement, enhancing school-community relations, strengthening school or district resources, encouraging a positive climate and promoting teacher effectiveness. Congratulations, E’Lane!
