Commentaries

I ran across this blog post by Justin Taylor on The Best Old Testament Commentaries You’ve Never Heard Of and very much agreed with his point. In fact the series they come from “Focus on the Bible” is so readable and Davis’ work is actually fun to read due to his excellent use of humor. I recently used one of his commentaries for a paper on Josiah. My daughter used his commentary on 2 Samuel for devotionals last year and glowed about it.
